He is the director of the Clinical Advanced Technologies Institute (CATI) promoted by the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona and Leitat Technological Center, and director of the UB-Siemens Healthcare Chair.

From 2007 to 2021, he was the director of the Department of Medical Imaging at the Hospital Clínic.

Early in his career, he has been involved in many research projects focused on abdominal imaging, especially on liver disease. The emphasis has shifted to digital imaging and the development and implementation of IT in diagnostic radiology. Under his leadership, a large R&D team was set up at the UDIAT, leading to several patents and products widely used all over Spain. He has given numerous lectures at prestigious universities, congresses, and courses. Altogether, he has published over 90 articles and seven book chapters.

Since 2019, he has participated as a commissioner in The Lancet on diagnostics and The Lancet Oncology on medical imaging and nuclear medicine.

He has always been active in national and international professional societies. He served as president of the International Society of Strategic Studies in Radiology (IS3R), the International Society of Radiology (ISR) and the Spanish Society for Diagnostic Radiology (SERAM) and president of the European Society of Radiology (ESR).

He has received numerous honours for his contributions to the discipline.
